Since it’s a holiday weekend, and I gave my co-bloggers time off (for good behavior, no less), I thought I’d just keep it light today and have a little fun.
My Top 25 Movies:
1] Arthur
“Hobson: If I begin to die, please take this off my head. This is not the way I wish to be remembered.”
2] Caddyshack
Hard to choose, as this movie had a TON of good quotes. But if I had to choose, it’s this one:
“Al Czervik: Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh?
[looks at Judge Smails, who's wearing the same hat]
Al Czervik: Oh, it looks good on you though.”
This is the scene (text doesn’t do it justice):
“Grace: Oh, he’s very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, d##kheads - they all adore him. They think he’s a righteous dude.”
(here’s the video of that quote…might not be safe for work, but I defy your boss to say otherwise!)
“[Mr. Parker reads a side of the box with the prize that he won]
Mr. Parker: Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian.
Mrs. Parker: Uh, I think that says FRAGILE, dear.
Mr. Parker: Oh, yeah.”
Favorite Quote:
Jeez, there’s a TON of good ones in this movie, but my favorite:
“Howard: What was he wearing? Well, uh, let’s see, he was wearing a red argyle sweater, and tan trousers, and red shoes… No, he’s not retarded.”
Here’s the scene (may not be safe for work):
7] Easy Money
“Monty: My mother-in-law, for years I wouldn’t kiss her face; I end up kissing her ass.”
Basically, anything that Marty Feldman said in this movie. He was hilarious. =)
“Max Goldman: Do me a favor. Pull your bottom lip up over your head… and swallow.”
10] Grumpier Old Men
(a couple, actually):
“Grandpa: Relax. Kids swallow quarters all the time.
Melanie: Really?
Grandpa: Sure. If she craps out two dimes and a nickel, then you can start worrying.”
“Grandpa Gustafson: Well, you can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which gets filled first.”
“John Gustafson: I’m cold.
Max Goldman: [hands him some matches] Here’s some matches. Set yourself on fire.”
11] Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
“Lois Einhorn: How would you like me to make your life a living hell?
Ace Ventura: Well, I’m not really ready for a relationship, Lois, but thank you for asking. Hey, maybe I’ll give you a call sometime. Your number’s still 911?”
and…
“Mr. Shickadance: Ventuuurrraaa.
Ace Ventura: Yes, Satan? Oh, I’m sorry, sir. You sounded like someone else.”
12] Spaceballs
“Barf: I’m a mog. Half man, half dog. I’m my own best friend.”
13] History of the World: Part I
“King Louis XVI: It’s good to be the king.”
14] Silent Movie
Hey, folks, there’s only one word spoken in this entire picture, spoken by (of all people) a mime. =)
(Note: this is the original, not the several remakes.)
“Fred Gailey: Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to. Don’t you see? It’s not just Kris that’s on trial, it’s everything he stands for. It’s kindness and joy and love and all the other intangibles.”
16] My Cousin Vinny
Favorite Quote:
Not really a quote, but a specific scene (contains the “f-bomb”):
(after Mr. Wilson decides to even the odds and tell Dennis’ hide-and-seek spy that his dad wants to take him to the ice cream store and he’d better hurry home):
“Mrs. Martha Wilson: You lied to a toddler, George.
George Wilson: [chuckles]
Mrs. Martha Wilson: Well, think how disappointed he’s gonna be when he gets home.
George Wilson: Well, he’d better get used to it, this disappointment’s gonna be a big part of his life. He’s a foot short for his age, and he’s cross-eyed.”
18] Kids in the Hall - Brain Candy
“Placebo Patient: No. It’s been two weeks and I don’t feel any different. All I’ve done is gain eight pounds. Now, what’s in this?
Baxter: Oh, a little of this and a little of that. Open.
Placebo Patient: It’s sugar isn’t it? I’m in the placebo group, aren’t I?!?”
19] The Shootist
“John Bernard Books: I won’t be wronged. I won’t be insulted. I won’t be laid a-hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”
“Clarence: Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he? ”
21] The Bridge on the River Kwai
“Colonel Nicholson: What have I done?”
22] The Wizard of Oz
“Wizard of Oz: A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.”
23] National Lampoon’s Vacation
“Clark: I think you’re all f##ked in the head. We’re ten hours from the f##king fun park and you want to bail out. Well I’ll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation. It’s a quest. It’s a quest for fun. I’m gonna have fun and you’re gonna have fun. We’re all gonna have so much f##king fun we’ll need plastic surgeory to remove our godamn smiles. You’ll be whistling ‘Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah’ out of you’re a##holes! I gotta be crazy! I’m on a pilgrimage to see a moose. Praise Marty Moose! Holy S##t!”
24] The Green Mile
“Paul Edgecomb: When I die and I stand before God awaiting judgment and he asks me why I let one of HIS miracles die, what am I gonna say, that it was my job?”
“Hannibal Lecter: A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.”
As you can see by the list, I prefer comedies…the more outrageous, the better. But I do like drama/action flicks, too. Once I got past #15, I started having a hard time picking my favorites, mainly because there’s so many that I like that I couldn’t decide which ones to include and which ones to leave out.
Anyway, feel free to make your own list and trackback to this post or, if you’d prefer, throw out some of your favorite movies in the comments. =)

Man, I love Ace Ventura so much that just reading the text can make me burst out laughing.
September 4th, 2007 at 6:31 amP.S. In our household, we quote “What do you know about pressure?/Well, I have kissed a man” all the time.
“Ace” is on the same level as Caddyshack in quotability, I think. Lot of great lines in both movies.
Everytime my friends and I go golfing, Caddyshack gets quoted all day long, whether it’s “Be the ball” or “Let’s go, while we’re young!”
