Nice of them to throw their nutroot base at least one bone, right? I mean, they haven’t been able to do squat on the war, and that has the Kossacks and the other nutroot members up in arms, so they gotta do something to appease them:
Democrats on Monday called on the chief executive of Clear Channel Communications to denounce remarks by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, whom they say made a “hateful” and “unpatriotic” attack on U.S. troops opposed to the war in Iraq.
At issue is a remark from Limbaugh that characterized such troops as “phony soldiers.” Democrats have seized on the issue, allowing them to hit back at Republicans who similarly latched onto a MoveOn.org ad that referred to Gen. David Petraeus as “General Betray Us.”
“Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said in his letter to Clear Channel Chief Executive Mark Mays. “We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a ‘phony soldier.’ We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.”
On his show Monday, Limbaugh blasted Democrats for their criticism, saying it is part of a smear campaign aimed at discrediting him.
“If anybody in this country has been trying to demoralize the troops, it is you, sir, and your members of the Democrat Party,” Limbaugh said. “You have waved the white flag of defeat.”
Reid stated that he is confident that “Republicans join with us in overwhelming numbers,” arguing that “anything less would be a double standard that has no place in the United States Senate.”
I tell you what, if there’s any Republicans dumb enough to join in on this with the Democrats, they’re in for a lotta trouble with Republican voters…me included.
Rush, of course, is right…it’s the ultimate hypocrisy for the Democrats to stand there on the floor of the Senate and complain about someone bashing or demoralizing the troops, because for the last four years, that’s all they’ve done.
Dick Durbin likened them to dictators like Pol Pot. John Kerry called them stupid. John Murtha called them cold-blooded murderers. They basically called General Petraeus a liar and a shill. You want more examples? Because I can dig out at a bunch more, with very little effort, trust me.
And for Tom Harkin, of all people, to go up there and be the front man for this effort is ludicrous. The man has proven, I don’t know how many times, that there’s nothing he won’t play politics with…even the funeral of a good friend (also, read here).
Media Matters is trying to make it look and sound like Rush said something he flat-out didn’t, and they’re basing their entire story on the fact that Rush continued to talk to this caller for another minute and fifty seconds before going on to give the context behind his “phony soldiers” remark. But here’s the thing: Rush DID clarify and give the context as soon as he finished that call. Media Matters has yet to inform their readers about this context, only referring to this so-called “gap”. They leave it to their readers to decide. But the problem with Liberals these days is that they don’t go to the source to get the facts, they just buy into the meme. Since Media Matters says Rush called ALL soldiers “phony”, then they are to be believed. No liberal will ever question them, nor will they go watch the video or read the entire transcripts of that day’s events.
And the media is right there with them. They won’t report what actually was said and in what context, because that won’t do the job for them (that is, to get Rush off the air). They are more than willing to carry water for the Soros-backed group and the Democrats. And let’s face it, this is all to get even for the “Betray-Us” ad that MoveOn.org was dumb enough to put in the New York Times.
I told you folks back last November that what we were in store for with this Democrat-led Congress was a bunch of “get evenisms”, and I’ve been proven correct so many times that it’s not even funny. The Democrats are pissed that they were in the minority for twelve years, and now it’s all about getting even. Getting even for Clinton’s impeachment, getting even for Republicans passing legislation they didn’t like, getting even for — well, you name it. Now it’s “get even” time for MoveOn, a group that gives money to Democrats hand over fist.
Helluva way to run a country, isn’t it?
One more thing: if you want to know how Democrats really feel about the military, just remember this photo I put up the other day:

The picture is of Hillary, but it could just as easily been any liberal Democrat doing the same thing.
I’ll have some more thoughts, probably a round-up of sorts, a little later.

I repeat the letter I sent to Harkin’s website. By posting it here, maybe a few libs will see it and start thinking about having this slimeball, shyster represent them.
Thank you for embarassing the citizens of Iowa once again with your CONSTANT, PARTISAN lying.
You owe Iowa and Rush Limbaugh an apology from the floor of the Senate immediately. Get your facts from other than that liar David Brock.
How much did George Soros give you to lie so much? If you haven’t reported each and every donation from Soros, Soros funded groups, and Soros affiliated groups, I will do the Democrat thing and sue your REMF rear end off.
You are a disgrace not only to Iowa, but the US, you useful idiot.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:29 amI also sent an email to Harkin. I suggested that he resign because he no longer represented Iowa but was a paid hack of moveon.org. I keep getting these canned responses about how we(Iowans) only want out of the war and our President is so wrong. The surge is not working, we lost the war. Yeah, he doesn’t work for Soros.
