Mohammed the Teddy Bear

It’s almost not post-worthy because there really is no comment to be had. It’s so obviously ridiculous.

A British teacher in Sudan was convicted Thursday of the less-serious charge of insulting Islam for letting her pupils name a teddy bear “Muhammad,” and was sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation to Britain, one of her lawyers said.

Gillian Gibbons could have received 40 lashes and six months in prison in the case if found guilty of the more serious charge of inciting religious hatred and given the maximum penalty.

On a certain level I am happy (and surprised) to see that Sudan actually has a functioning legal system, even if the laws are a bit…extreme. On another level I’d like to see their judicial resources go to ending genocide rather than punishing people who name their teddy bears the wrong name.

    I don’t have any way of knowing this woman’s reasons for going to Sudan to teach English. If they were totally honorable and selfless she has learned a powerful lesson: evil exists in the world and she has met it face to face. I pray she finds a nice, safe job in Great Britain where she can become an unknown again and try to put this behind her. Who knows what terror awaits her in prison for 15 days. This is a tragedy and the Western feminists are sitting on their hands.

    Now I see that they are calling for her execution all because she named a teddy bear Mohammed. So, following their logic, shouldn’t they then be calling for the execution of anyone who names anything Mohammed?

    Wow, just another example of the Islamic disdain for common sense. This woman was accused of teaching hatred of Islam for naming a teddy bear mohammed. The truth is education is the real enemy of Islam and that their leaders prohibit education in Islamic countries unless it is taught by Islamic fundalmentalists. These same
    leaders claim they teach only love, and in the next sentence call for the murder of all non-Islams.
    If this was truly mohammeds teaching then he was a murderer and a coward.

    How sad we live in a world where a child wants to call a teddy bear by a name they revere and suceed in vilafying their teacher. Were these children that suggested the name executed?

    Well I guess we should imprison all parents that named their children Jesus (lookout Latin America and Mexico).

    Here’s an idea, let’s steralize anyone found to lack the common sense and intelligence to see past idiotic, non-important issues like this teddy bear issue. But, what would we do without republicans and islamic fundmentalists in this world.

    Well after today I am no longer going to refer to my penis as ralph. God knows I might offend a honeymooners fan. Instead I will now refer to my male part as Mohammed. Seems kinda fitting,
