So I saw this on Memeorandum and thought I’d take a peek and see what nonsense he’s peddling today. First, the setup:

It’s really weird that Republican candidates for high office almost never named Abraham Lincoln as their favorite Republican president. He was, after all, a Republican. And he was inarguably more consequential than Reagan, no matter how enamored you are of Reagan’s tenure. Indeed, most historians consider him America’s greatest president. But few Republicans appear to feel similarly. It’s almost as if they think naming him will offend certain elements of their coalition. The elements that listens to songs entitled “Barack, the Magic Negro,” for instance.

First off, let’s take this as it is, a flat-out lie or, at best, misrepresentation. Lincoln libererated a million or so people (the slaves) by winning the Civil War. Reagan only liberated a few hundred million people by winning the Cold War. No, no similarities there, and if you look at it from that perspective, then yeah, I guess Reagan was inconsequential.

Enough of the sarcasm, though, because pointing out this little whisper (“psst….Republicans are racists!”) isn’t the main reason for this post. Nope, it’s the comments that follow. This one, for example:

That’s because Pres. Lincoln would be a Democrat if he were alive today…and they know it.

There are several more along those lines, but you get the gist of it. Were Lincoln alive today, he’d be a Democrat. Really? I mean, REALLY? Think about that for a second.

Lincoln became involved in what initially was a popular war with popular support. It rapidly became unpopular. Was his reaction to pull out? To surrender? To say that it was a civil war and couldn’t be won by military force alone? You know your history (I hope), you know where I’m going with this. He kept going until he won, despite the political problems it created for him. And, no, I’m not saying Bush is like Lincoln (although there are similarities, but you can find the same thing between just about any President and Lincoln, some more than others).

The Democrats of the day, however…let’s just say that history has a way of repeating itself and leave it at that.

Liberals, do yourselves a favor and quit trying to rewrite history. Obama is no Lincoln anymore than I am. The ONLY similarities between them is that they were political nobodies who eventually became President. So far, that’s it. Until Obama is actually sworn in and does whatever he’s going to do, stop trying to compare him to some of our greatest and most beloved Presidents. That includes Lincoln AND Reagan.
