Call the beauty police, the Chosen One is getting some gray hairs:

Well, that didn’t take long. Just 44 days into the job, and President Obama is going gray.

It happens to all of them, of course — Bill Clinton still had about half a head of brown hair when he took office but was a silver fox two years later, and George W. Bush went from salt and pepper to just salt in what seemed like a blink of an eye.

But so soon? “I started noticing it toward the end of the campaign and leading up to inauguration,” says Deborah Willis, who, as co-author of “Obama: The Historic Campaign in Photographs,” pored through 5,000 photographs of the first head over the last year.

Mr. Obama’s graying is still of the flecked variety, and appears to wax and wane depending on when he gets his hair cut, which he does about every two weeks. His barber, who goes by only one name, Zariff, takes umbrage with bloggers who alternately claim Mr. Obama, 47, is dyeing his hair gray (to appear more distinguished) or dyeing it black (to appear younger). “I can tell you that his hair is 100 percent natural,” Zariff said. “He wouldn’t get it colored.”

And for all of his 16 years giving Mr. Obama his “quo vadis” haircut — black parlance from the 1960s for close-cut locks — Zariff said he is not about to start ribbing Mr. Obama. “We do not tease about the gray at all,” he said.

Well, no, of course you do not tease him about the gray. Nor does anyone tease him about his ears, nor are they to bring up Rev. Wright, his racist grandmother, his terrorist buddies, et al. One does not engage in a little humor with the Obamessiah, after all.

Seriously, where the hell was reporting like this for Bush? Was the New York Times — or any liberal paper, for that matter — concerned enough to write something so trivial as this? Did they ever show anything other than contempt for the man, mere weeks after his inauguration? Of course not. He was a Republican, after all.

Look, the office of the President is a stressful job no matter who is in the Oval Office. It ages people rapidly. The stress, the long hours, etc. It takes its toll. It’s nothing new, and the people who run for the office are well aware of the risks to their health, yet they still do it.

What galls me is that the New York Times suddenly sees fit to voice concern about such a stressful work environment when it’s a liberal Democrat in office as President, but they did nothing but bitch and moan whenever Dubya wasn’t in Washington. Everytime he left the White House to get some “time off” (never happens, Presidents work 24/7/365), they did nothing but complain about it.

Remember, they did the same stuff with Clinton right after he took office. When Bush, Sr., went to Kennebunkport for any relaxation, he was ridiculed as “elitist” and “out of touch”. But Clinton goes to Martha’s Vineyard, and all of a sudden it’s a “needed break.” Kennebunkport was Bush’s home. Martha’s Vineyard is where the rich and elite go to play. So, you tell me, who was the elitist?

Update: Oh, and for what it’s worth, I recently turned 40. I have some gray hairs, too, and I’ve never ran for public office. I’ve had plenty of stress in my life (twenty years in management), but I don’t think that’s the culprit. Age is, quite simply. I mean, I’m not 24 anymore and my body reminds me of this fact almost daily.

Well, to be a little fair, the professional media ran stories about how the presidency aged the men who held the job, showing pictures of Bill Clinton and George W Bush sort of “before” and “after.” As in, after they’d been president for eight years, and were, according to my precise calculations, eight years older.

But the professional media want you to focus on Mr Obama’s grey hairs. It shows you how hard he’s working, for us, you know, and that way they don’t have to focus on his policies.

Yes, that is true, but did they run anything six weeks after Bush was in office saying how he was getting gray or how he was working too hard? Because, as you pointed out, this is a piece that is supposed to show us how hard Obama is working and how the stress is already taking a toll on him, etc. They did the same thing with Clinton.

I’ll tell you this much, they didn’t show any such concern for Reagan or either of the Bushes, I’m pretty sure. Anytime they took off for a little break, they were bashed over it. Yet Obama or Clinton, why, they’re overworked and they’ve simply got to take a much-needed break!
