Imagine, if you will, if a right-wing comedian said something like this about a Democrat:
Wanda Sykes, the comic featured as tonight’s entertainer at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, took a couple of shots at Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. She speculated that Limbaugh was actually the 20th hijacker on 9/11 and derided Hannity for not living up to his pledge to be waterboarded for the troops.
Really no need to imagine it, because it’s happened a couple of times. Whenever anyone on the right even suggests, whether in jest or in seriousness, the patriotism or loyalty of those on the left, they react with blind outrage. But when it’s one of their own saying the same things about someone on the right, they’re perfectly ok with that. And they call our party the party of hate? Puh-friggin’- LEASE!
Speaking of hate, that brings me to something else I saw earlier:
A man convicted last month of murdering a transgender teenager was sentenced Friday to an additional 60 years in prison.
In April, a jury found Allen Andrade guilty of first degree murder and a hate crime in the death of Angie Zapata, an 18-year-old transgender teen.
Immediately after the verdict, Andrade was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first degree murder conviction.
The 60 years tacked on to the sentence Friday was for the hate crime charge and two other charges.
Do you not see the idiocy of hate-crime legislation? The person is in jail for life, no possibility of getting out, but just to be sure, they give him an extra 60 years because it was motivated by hate (like they can read minds or something).
Now, I saw this on FARK, and the libs over there are using the deterrence argument, saying that adding the extra punishment will make others think twice about doing the same thing. It’s fascinating, because these are the same people who say that the death penalty isn’t a deterrent to people who would murder others. Apparently, to liberals the only time the death penalty is appropriate is if the victim is black or gay and the defendent is white or straight. Or conservative.
Look, the fact is that murder is murder. You don’t get much more serious than that when it comes to violent crime. Why not apply the same standard, across the board, to people who willfully and deliberately kill someone else? It doesn’t matter if they killed them because they were gay or black or because they had a wallet full of money or a pair of nice shoes, the victim isn’t any more or any less dead because of it. If a crime was committed and the person found guilty, then the full punishment should be applied, regardless of whether or not there was “hate” involved.
Update: Must be the weekend of liberal hatred:
The film “Outrage,” which opens today at the Embarcadero Center Cinema in San Francisco, presents interviews and documentation charging that a number of prominent legislators – including Dreier, the U.S. representative from San Dimas (Los Angeles County), GOPFlorida Gov. Charlie Crist and former Democratic New York Mayor Ed Koch – have remained closeted while publicly opposing legislation on issues such as same-sex marriage, HIV/AIDS funding, and gays in the military.
Kirby Dick, the film’s director, told The Chronicle on Thursday that “it’s not only the right thing to do, it’s the responsibility of journalists and filmmakers to report on hypocrisy wherever they see it.
You mean hypocrisy, like when a Democrat tells us to live in mud huts or we’ll destroy the planet, yet continues to fly in jumbo jets, drive gas-guzzling SUVs, and lives in a sprawling mansion estate? That kind of hypocrisy? I don’t think that word means what you think it means, Mr. Dick (what a name for a gay activist!).
Isn’t it funny how these people claim to represent gay rights, yet they continuosly violate the number one gay right of all, the right to remain in the closet? They try and justify it as exposing self-hating gays, but there’s no excuse for it at all. Being gay doesn’t mean you should automatically be in favor of gay marriage, you know, anymore than being white means you should be for whites-only marriage. You can’t explain this stuff to a liberal, though…they see everything as justified, as long as they do it against a Republican. But let one of their own get treated like this, they howl in outrage.
Monday Update: Given all the coverage of the Sykes “joke”, I’m going to ask a rhetorical question: how long until Obama comes out and says “This isn’t the Wanda Sykes I know?” In other words, how long until he throws her under the bus? You know, like he did to his grandmother, Bill Ayers, and Reverend Wright? I give it a week, tops.
Monday Night Update: Heh, he didn’t even last a week:
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs this afternoon expressed displeasure with the comedy stylings of Wanda Sykes, who at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner referred to Rush Limbaugh as the “20th hijacker” so “strung-out on Oxycontin” he missed his flight, this afternoon .
Gibbs said “a lot of topics are better left for serious reflection rather than comedy. I don’t think there’s any doubt that 9/11 is a part of that.”
The spokesman had been asked by a New York Times reporter if the president had any reaction to Sykes’ jokes about Limbaugh at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Not a direct reaction by the President, to be sure, but a reaction nonetheless. And it was, essentially, just as I said it would be. If nobody had said anything about it or taken offense, Obama and the White House wouldn’t have said a thing. But regardless of what he says or how they try to spin this, the fact remains that he was sitting there, laughing about it as it happened. Unless, of course, he’s going to try the ol’ Rev. Wright defense, that he was sitting there but he didn’t hear a word of it, just as he attended Wright’s church for twenty years and never heard any racist sermons.

Well as long as conservatives think they are above the fray, it will continue. You can counter the left wing without being vile. I watch some of these conservative republicans talking heads talking about policy and issues and they are waiting for Obama and the left to hurt themselves. No doubt they will, but people will seek an Independent or a Libertarian candidate to vote for. I have been a republican for years and am waiting for a charismatic candidate to bring the fight to the left rather than the dry talking heads. Even now when our country is being dismantled by these progressives they sit passively. Unless it changes quickly, they will loose another long time supporter.
