I haven’t had time to look at it properly, but from what I’ve managed to read around the blogosphere, there is a shift of opinion going on in America in regards to abortion. Gallup says:

A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves “pro-life” on the issue of abortion and 42% “pro-choice.” This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.

Now, this is Gallup, so it’s entirely possible (in fact, highly probable) that this is some kind of slanted poll. Having said that, though, most of their polls slant to the left, so if anything the results are probably more in our favor.

Since we’re on the subject, just to clarify where I stand on abortion, I’m against it except in cases where the life of the mother may be in danger or in cases of rape or assault. Other than that, I don’t think there should be any exceptions. However, I think it is a decision that should be made at the state level, not by the federal government or by the Supreme Court. If a state like California, for example, wants abortion, fine…but people in other states shouldn’t have to live with that choice unless it’s what they want, as well.

Basically what I wish to see is for SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade and kick it back to the states where it belongs, and let them decide the issue. Nothing more, nothing less.
